Hate Symbol

Blood Tribe

All the symbols depicted in the hate symbols database must be evaluated in the context in which they appear. Few symbols represent just one idea or are used exclusively by one group. For example, 100% is often used as an amount or an expression and it is also used by some white supremacists as shorthand for "100% white." Similarly, other symbols in this database may be significant to people who are not extreme or racist. The descriptions here point out significant multiple meanings but may not be able to relay every possible meaning of a particular symbol.

Blood Tribe is a neo-Nazi group started by white supremacist Christopher Pohlhaus in the 2020s. It is known primarily for staging provocative demonstrations featuring Blood Tribe members wearing uniforms consisting of a red shirt and black pants, gloves and masks.  The group uses the slogan “There will be blood,” an implicit threat of violence.  Pohlhaus once wrote in 2023 that “the only optics we need is to be the only ones putting horror in…people’s hearts.”

Blood Tribe combines standard neo-Nazi tropes and beliefs with an emphasis on Odinism/Wotanism, the racist variant of modern Norse paganism, as well as Esoteric Hitlerism, a term used to describe attempts to infuse Adolf Hitler with religious or spiritual significance.

The group’s logo features the German word “Blut” (blood) written with overlapping runic characters. In addition to Blood Tribe’s logo and its “There will be blood” slogan, group members may also use an image of a red drop of blood.  At public events or demonstrations, they may wave large black flags with a white swastika on them.

The neo-Nazi group Blood Tribe should not in any way be mistaken or conflated with the Blackfoot Nation of Kainai, an indigenous people in Canada who also refer to themselves as Blood Tribe.
