ADL Lawsuit Against the Islamic Republic of Iran
The Islamic Republic of Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, antisemitism, and Holocaust denial and distortion. Anti-Jewish and anti-Israel hate and incitement have been a core pillar and a defining feature of the Iranian regime, promoted through state media, educational system, religious sermons and international propaganda, including through Holocaust cartoon contests and annual Quds Day rallies.
Since its founding in 1979, through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its elite Quds Force, the Islamic Republic has cultivated and financed a vast network of terror proxies across the Middle East. These include Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the West Bank and Gaza, the Houthis in Yemen, Shi’a militias in Iraq and Syria, and covert operatives in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. These proxies have targeted Jewish communities, Israeli civilians, U.S. service members, and Western interests globally, engaging in bombings, assassinations, executions, cyberattacks and missile and drone attacks.
Inside Iran, the regime systematically persecutes religious, ethnic, gender and sexual minorities as well as political dissidents. Security forces routinely arrest, torture and execute regime critics and activists under vague charges such as “spreading corruption on earth.”
Over the years, ADL has monitored closely and exposed the antisemitic hate and incitement, extremist ideology, and Holocaust denial and distortion propagated by the Islamic Republic and its terror proxies as well as the glorification of terrorism.
